GrandparentsGod has graciously blessed us with a son–Paul William Waller. He arrived today, March 16 at 3:42 a.m. He is the cutest little baby, but a big one weighing 9 pounds 11 ounces and 22 inches long.  God’s mercy was with us all of the way as the labor was longer and harder than we anticipated. God is so faithful to carry us through. Priscilla and baby are healthy and doing amazing! A verse the Lord used to encourage us during this time was in Psalm 139:13-16:

“thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”

Meaning of His Name:

We selected the name Paul months ago based on the incredible hero of faith in the Bible. The meaning of his name is often listed as small, little, or sometimes even humble. I think those are all traits that we should have: being small in our own eyes, having the faith of a little child, and humbling ourselves before the Mighty Hand of God. However, I think the best meaning we read was dynamo in energy and faith. Dynamite comes in small packages, but is incredibly powerful.

His middle name, William, not only matches his father’s middle name but has rich meaning. It comes from the Germanic elements ‘wil’ (will, desire) and ‘helm’ (helmet, protection). Some even add a little and call him a strong-willed warrior. We want this precious gift from God to be all he can be and be a mighty man dynamic for the Lord as he guards those around him.

  15. Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby boy! Paul is such a lovely name! Hope you are all doing well.

Is that Babywise you are reading Priscilla?

God blessed me with nine wonderful children (and a tenth due on July 3rd-a little boy!), and I was given it as a baby shower gift when pregnant with my daughter Faith, who is now six.

I had such trouble breastfeeding with it, she was the first of my children I was unable to breastfeed, the milk dried up after a few weeks, and my daughter was struggling to put on weight, and grew very slowly. I ended up giving her formula, but she still didnt grow as well as my other babies until I gave up with the schedule and fed her when she was hungry. She also did nothing but cry for the first few months, which was hard with six other children to take care of. I didnt have this problem with Grace, our next baby, who I fed on demand. I dont recommend scheduling feedings, as God gave babies the ability to cry when hungry, and mothers bodies the ability to produce extra milk when hearing the sound of babies crying (you will come to discover this, I was so suprised about what a miracle the human body was when this happened with my first child) for a reason.

I think the best advice I had on new parenting came from my mother, who raised seven children herself, and that is to trust your instincts, all babies are different, and choose what feels right to you-its impossible to spoil a newborn baby so just enjoy him, as they grow up so fast!

    1. I also found feeding on demand to be the best for baby and milk production. Katy; Faith and Grace are very beautiful names. May I ask the names of your other children? I have a Rowan and Theodore. Regards, Kirsty in England.

    2. You’re absolutely right, Katy. The human body is such a miracle in this way!

    3. I agree with the people speaking out against Babywise. It has been found to be damaging to infants and in some cases even harm their health or the mother’s ability to breastfeed. God made babies to need a lot of care in their early months. Why deny them that for your own convenience? Using Babywise rather than caring for your infant as God intended is like having a caesarian because you are unwilling to go through birth. It might be more convenient, but it is not always safe and goes against the way God made us.

  16. Congratulations!!! I am so glad for a safe arrival. I was prying for you!!!

  18. Congratulations, what a beautiful big baby boy!!!!!!!Well done Priscilla!!Love to all!

  19. I was so excited to hear you had your little baby boy!! We’ve been praying for you two over here at the Normoyles! God did a good job “delivering” you and your baby from pregnancy Priscilla, thank you for sharing that rhema. I’m excited you’re reading Baby Wise! Mama used that on all six of us, and we’re still alive! (just kidding;) She really appreciated it’s emphasis on schedules and regulated feedings. The priciples in that book really made a difference for Mama and Papa (and us too of course) as they sought to try to feed us and keep us well rested.
God bless you both, as He already has. Have a wonderful Sabbath!
    Patience

  20. Congratulations David and Priscilla! Rejoicing with you in this wonderful time, and will be praying for you as you enter this new and exciting stage of your life.

  21. Congratulations on your wonderful blessing from a stranger many miles away. God bless you and keep you all.

  22. Oh my goodness! Little Paul is SO precious! I am so happy for you guys, and your precious little blessing from the Lord!

    Love,
    Grace

  23. Congrats on your beautiful son! I hope the new parents and baby are settling in well and hopefully getting some sleep! (: Please do share the birth story when you can. I bet the Lord pulled you both through the tough patches of the labor…can’t wait to hear!

    God Bless!

  24. CONGRATULATIONS David & Priscilla on the birth of your son, Paul!
My prayer partner and I have been praying for a safe delivery for both Priscilla and the baby. Praise God for answering that prayer and that Paul is here now and everybody can get some rest.

Another Blessing came when David shared that he now has a “new appreciation” for what Moms go through to deliver a baby. I pray his comment will prompt every man (regardless of whether husband, father, brother or son) to take the time to appreciate what women go through in child birth and to say thank you to the women in their lives who have carried and given birth to children.

Thanks for sharing the precious pictures.
    I’m very happy for you!

  25. Oh, a little St. Patrick’s baby! He is so adorable! Love his name! Priscilla, I hope you make a fast recovery! My youngest brother was 9 lbs and 11 oz. when he was born! Congratulations to you all!

  26. Congradulations! He’s born on St. Patrick’s day, by the way. Maybe he’ll be a missionary like St. Patrick was to the people of Ireland 1500 years ago. Just a little thought 🙂 Either way, I see he’s in good hands.

  27. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I have been checking every day praying for a healthy, safe baby and Mommy. Enjoy!!!

    Yours,
    Alexis

  28. I had a feeling your precious baby boy was coming any day, so I have been checking your page daily! My husband and I went to a St. Patrick’s Day luncheon after church and I snuck in a quick check on my phone and there he was!! Paul William Waller! Congratulations to you both and everyone in your family! I know everyone is so excited and quickly falling in love with little Paul! I am sincerely happy for you both. Much love to you all!

  29. Congratulations. He’s a beautiful boy, and both of you look so happy. Priscilla especially looks incredibly good for a woman who just birthed such a big first baby!

Priscilla – have you checked out “Gentle Christian Mothering”? It’s a website especially for Christian women who want to raise their children biblically and with love. I think it would really suit you, as well as being a great way to connect with other mothers (and other women who will listen to every detail with as much wonder as you feel recounting it cause they are all in the flush of love with their babies too and in a similar season of life).

  30. Congrats to all! I have three children, each a special blessing, and my youngest (five weeks old), shares a middle name with Paul. My other job, besides my primary ones of wife and mother, is as a pediatrician. My best advice to you all is to listen to God and listen to Paul. Babies are some of the smartest creatures–they will “talk” to you so be open to hearing their voice as communication. Just as God speaks to us in many subtle ways, so do babies.

Wishing you all the best (and lots of sleep!)

  31. Congratulations! What a beautiful little boy. Paul is a wonderful name.blessings to you all!

  32. What a beautiful baby with a great name! Congratulations. God is so good.

  33. Yay! Congratulations, Mom and Dad!! 🙂 He is so sweet!! I am so happy for you guys! Paul is my dad’s name, and I must agree that it has such a powerful meaning! 🙂 I’ll be praying for Priscilla’s health and the baby!

  34. Congratulations!

So glad for both of you — you were all (three) in our prayers.

    Little Paul is beautiful!

    1. I love this website! Theres such great advice on there for parenting, I wish I had discovered it when my oldest child was a baby. Theres a very positive difference between my children who I used to spank as toddlers, and the ones who have been born since I gave up spanking. My children no longer fear me and do things to avoid punishment, but listen to me and behave because they love me (and God!), trust that I am doing things in their best interests and want to make me happy. It also gives the house a more peaceful and calming atmosphere.

Jesus was a very gentle and loving man who loved all of us, and of course, he is the example all Christians should strive to follow.

Im quick to recommend it to all new mothers at church!

I think Priscilla will love this website, she is such a lovely, Godly woman, who I am sure will make a wonderful mother.

  35. Congratulations, David and Priscilla…and welcome to the world Paul William!!
Such lovely news to hear today…myself and my husband welcomed our 4th baby Noah Jacob 18 days ago, weighing in at a very healthy 10lbs, and although he does not sleep, and only wants to lay in our arms, he is such a blessing, and as many other parents have given me this advice over the years…cherish these early days and weeks, because we never get them back, enjoy the cuddles, and make memories as a new family, be thankful if your baby doesn’t like to sleep, their little minds are working, their eyes open to see the world and ears are open to hear the lords word…and take as many pictures as possible, they change everyday!!

We are so happy for you both x

  36. Congratulations Waller family! What a beautiful and precious addition. God is good!

  37. I’ve lurked on your blog off and on for a while now, but I wanted to come out of lurkdom to tell you congratulations on the birth of your son! I’m sure y’all are almost overwhelmed with advice, so my best advice is to trust God and the instincts that He gave you. I also third the recommendation of the gentle Christian mothers site. Since my daughter was born, I’ve found a lot of good advice there on parenting issues all from a Christian perspective.

  38. We rejoice with you and praise our wonderful Lord and God for that precious gift He gave you! May He give you a relaxing time getting used to being a family.
It is so great that you have this vision for your son (and other children to come).
    From Germany,
    Simone

  39. Congrats on the new baby, best advice from a mom of 4 is to just trust the Lord and the instincts you start having as a mom. So many people will tell you this and tell you that, but every baby is different and demands are different. Blessings to you both and the new baby.

  40. Congratulations on the birth of baby Paul! I know that Priscilla will be a wonderful mother and David will be an absolutely fabulous father! You must be head-over-heels in love with your new little peanut! Blessings to your entire family!!

  46. We rejoice with you! He is a precious blessing and everyone looks wonderful! “But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.” Psalm 68:3. “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:10 “For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12. “Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.” Psalm 89: 15,16 “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:18 🙂

  47. Congratulations, I’m so happy for you all. I love the name, God Bless. Love the Photos and stuff, thanks for sharing.

  48. Congratulations! You are so blessed! May God continue to bless you as you raise your son to love and honor Him!

  49. Congratulations! I am so happy for you and will be praying for you guys and your new blessing!

  50. is very nice to know when a baby comes even close-knit and loving family like yours the baby is adorable in these early days will be too tired to both but only a matter of time to establish a routine many congratulations for this fruit of their love them desceo that god guide each of your steps so that you can make your child a good Christian man and ben.

I understand you perfectly priscilla because I also had a first labor very long and very painful but true that feeling pain disappears by having our children in the arms I recommend from experience that took a lot of chamomile tea to help your body recover and this will also help you get more milk for your baby.

Congratulations and a kiss for william

  57. Congratulations! I just welcomed a little girl myself on March 13th. Congrats on such a beautiful gift from God!

    1. I rejoice in the Lord over your new son, David & Priscilla! Welcome Paul William!! “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psalm 127:3 God placed on my heart to encourage you with His Word and with gentle reminders: Exodus 2:2-3, Genesis 21:8, 1 Samuel 1:22-23, Isaiah 49:15, Psalm 22:9. Keep in mind God’s design and that during Biblical times there were no precise clocks, pacifiers, pumps, bottles, cribs, bassinets, cradles, playpens, portable cribs, swings, carriages, strollers, and toys. The Lord impressed on my heart how Moses’ mother hid him for 3 months without these mother substitutes. Also, the Lord impressed on my heart the many nursing mothers during the Sermon on the Mount, the feeding of the 5,000 and the feeding of the 4,000 as they listened to Jesus. As a mama of four (now ages 8-16), I have used (sadly sometimes overused) these various mother substitutes, however, God convicted me to encourage you to “seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore” (Psalm 105:4) as you mother baby Paul. “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” Isaiah 40:11

  58. Congratulations!!! He is soooo cute!! I am glad that mom and baby are doing good!!! I will keep ya’ll in my prayers!!!

    Don’t quit!

  60. Belated congratulations on the safe arrival of Paul William. He looks very much like his proud daddy.

  61. Hi David and Priscilla, I hope I’m not being nosey and too personal, but I was only wondering if you had planned ro raise him (and your future children) the way that David was with gender neutral roles?
