A Broken Nose, Seeing Family & Canada

As many of you may have realized by now, we really enjoy the outdoors and being active in whatever comes our way. Once in a while, there are some price tags. A few weeks ago, David was invited to join some friends to play some soccer and volleyball. Wanting to burn energy right off the bat, he chose the pick up game of soccer first. Before long, in a moment of stiff competition he ended up colliding with someone and breaking his nose. Thus, the long silence from us all.DavidlovesPriscilla00002

David’s mom happened to be in town and was able to watch Paul while we went together for several doctor visits and eventually a minor surgery to reset the bone in David’s nose.

DavidlovesPriscilla00003One of the perks of having the injury was being able to spend some extra hours at home. We love doing things together. Priscilla’s chicken pot pie was so delicious and David enjoyed rolling out the crust for it.DavidlovesPriscilla00001Paul enjoyed some extra grandma time and especially when he got to watch (and help :-)) her play piano.

Mexican Friends

DavidlovesPriscilla00004One of the ways Priscilla enjoys encouraging young ladies is by inviting them over to do some cooking together. Not only does she get to try cooking new things, but she also has the opportunity to get to know the girls and invest in their lives.

DavidlovesPriscilla00005David sure enjoys coming home to the beautiful meals that are prepared and will often invite some others to come over as well.

DavidlovesPriscilla00006It was a beautiful day, so we decided to have everyone eat out on our deck. What a fun evening and one that will have lasting memories. Priscilla’s two Mexican friends returned to Mexico later that week.

Abigail Renee’s Baby Shower

David’s brother Adam and his wife Valerie recently had their first baby–A girl. They named her Abigail Renee. David’s mom was still in town when they had their baby shower so she and Priscilla enjoyed attending this special event.DavidlovesPriscilla00007“Mom Waller,” as we call David’s mom, and some friends stopped by one of the tables at the baby shower and made some special hair bows.

Sunday was our first day without David’s nose cast so we celebrated by going out to one of his family’s favorite restaurants. It is a Chinese restaurant that they have gone to off and on for special days for twenty years with the same staff and management still there and remembering us each time we are in town.DavidlovesPriscilla00011

David’s parents are preparing to celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary. We are grateful for their example of staying true to the Lord and each other no matter what the circumstances.DavidlovesPriscilla00012Paul loves “Daddy time.” There is nothing quite like a little guy thrilled to pieces to see you that blesses a daddy’s heart.DavidlovesPriscilla00013It is always fun to be around Christian young people and get some good exercise. This quick game of two-hand-touch football was a pick up game at a park in Southern Illinois called Starved Rock State Park. DavidlovesPriscilla00014

Trip to CanadaDavidlovesPriscilla00015

Recently, David’s parents came through town and were on their way up for a short weekend in Canada to visit David’s sister. We all jumped in the minivan and headed up to be with them. DavidlovesPriscilla00016Paul enjoyed some fun with his cousins and it is certain that they enjoyed having a younger cousin to hold and take care of as well, even if they are not that much bigger.

Paul loved playing with his cousins so much so that he did not want to go down for his usual naps. In fact, I think he set records for staying awake only napping once during the day. There was just too much to do and way to much fun to have with his cousins.DavidlovesPriscilla00017David’s sister Rachelle cooked up a storm! Growing up, she did a masterful job helping David’s mom keep David and all his brothers well fed. We enjoyed a veritable feast with a classic Thanksgiving Dinner a month early.DavidlovesPriscilla00018Grandma and Grandpa Waller enjoyed taking three of their four grandchildren on a walk all at the same time.DavidlovesPriscilla00019Priscilla quickly jumped in to help make some amazing brownies. Serena Grace, only three years old wanted to be sure to help stir and do a little taste testing :-).DavidlovesPriscilla00020

Our feast was enjoyed by all, even served on fine China. Most of all, the fellowship was special. DavidlovesPriscilla00021David’s dad took some time to play with Nehemiah who turned one year old this week. DavidlovesPriscilla00022What a precious family! Rachelle was the first of our siblings to get married and has been a real example to us all. She moved up to Canada and is still making all of the big adjustments of living life in a different country.DavidlovesPriscilla00023

  1. Wow! Looks like ya’ll have had alot going on, but also a time of fun and fellowship. I’m glad to see that David is doing better with his nose, i’m sure that wasn’t to much fun. Paul is always a blessing to see, he is growing so much!. God Bless =)

  2. Thank you so much for all the wonderful updates. I would really love to know some of those great looking recipes.

  3. What a blessing to be able to travel around and see your family and have them come to see you. My husband and I moved to a suburb of Chicago almost 4 years ago and we have no family around. We know how difficult it can be not being near our families.

Glad David is doing better! I’ve never had a broken anything, so I can’t imagine how much pain you were in.

God bless you and your ministry for the Lord! Thank you for your testimony!!

  4. Where in Canada did you go? I live in New Brunswick (bordering Maine). I love following the Duggar and Keller stories 🙂

    1. And Waller stories too 🙂 I loved following Priscilla’s pregnancy. I also had a baby boy in January.

  5. Thank you for an encouraging and inspiring update! It is so vital for us to have godly examples to watch and follow! …even on another continent. Paul’s enthusiasm is contagious! He is my best friend.

  6. So sorry about your nose!! It looks like you all had a wonderful time with family though, thank you all for sharing your pictures!! I loved them 🙂

  7. WOW! So much fun…But I am sorry that you broke your nose, David. Hope it is feeling better!

  8. Sorry to hear about your nose David! Thanks so much for sharing and wonderful to see such joyful family pics!

  9. Thanks for the fun post! Just an fyi–Starved rock is really in the northern part of Illinois–not the southern part:)

  10. You didn’t mention where in Canada your sister lives.
    Which province and city/town?

  11. Goodness!! I’m sorry to hear about your broken nose. I bet that was painful! But it doesn’t look like it took long before you were back at it with a game of touch football… which probably made Priscilla nervous! I really look forward to your updates. They’re so uplifting. Thanks for sharing your lives with us!

And now… if you’ll share Priscilla’s chicken pot pie recipe. I was on strict bedrest for four months with our son. Friends and family brought casseroles and frozen dishes to help us through. Even after our son was born, we had a few frozen dishes left. One day, I popped a chicken pot pie in the oven for supper. My husband gobbled it up!! And then he commented, “Babe, I don’t know what you did, but that is the best pot pie you have EVER made! Don’t lose that recipe!” While I was appreciative of his encouragment… I didn’t make it! My friend Patty made it! :O) Patty said she just threw a few things together and doesn’t remember what she did. Anyhow, I have been on the hunt for a good pot pie recipe. Care to share?
